I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m feeling bummed out, a little Christmas always lifts my spirits! It could be mid-May, but if I’m feeling overwhelmed, I’ll pop open Pinterest and search “Christmas Quotes.” The messages of hope and joy immediately help to re-center and bring me back to a feeling of peace.

During a particularly anxious period, I decided to create some of my own graphics with my favorite Christmas quotes! If you’ve happened upon this post due to a similar stressful scenario, or you’re just gearing up for the holidays, I hope these quotes shine a little light into your day!

Enjoy & Merry Christmas!

Christmas Quotes in Modern Movies

The Grinch

“Blast this Christmas music. It's joyful & triumphant.”

Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The way The Grinch delivers this line in the movie is more as a curse to the music being too joyful & triumphant. However, I love that when you just read it as a quote it sounds more like “turn it up!” Which are my sentiments exactly!

"Blast this Christmas music. It's joyful & triumphant." from Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Elf

“Let's recite The Code of the Elves, shall we? #1: Treat every day like Christmas. #2: There's room for everyone on the nice list. #3: The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”

Elf

I feel like #3 tends to get more love than the others. But I gotta say, I resonate the most with #1! “Treat every day like Christmas.” Christmas is a time of joy and wonder and good will towards men – why wouldn't you want to treat every day in that way?!

"Let's recite The Code of the Elves, shall we? #1: Treat every day like Christmas. #2: There's room for everyone on the nice list. #3: The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear." from the movie Elf

The Polar Express

“Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can't see.”

The Polar Express

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but I think they got this line from the New York Sun editorial, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.” In 1897, eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon wrote a letter to The Sun asking if Santa Claus is real and they responded with a sweet letter, which obviously proved he is in fact real.

One of the excerpts reads, “Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see.” If you don't know it, you can read the whole thing here. It's cute.

Later, in 1965, Jimmy Dean did a variation on the article called “Yes, Patricia There is a Santa Claus” and I adore it! Listen to it here!

Christmas Quotes in Classic Movies

The Santa Clause

“Seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing.”

The Santa Clause

In my opinion, this is another rendition of the Virginia quote above. But, why not?! It's a great quote!

Little Elf Judy follows this up with, “Kids don't have to see this place to know that it's here – they just… know.” Believing is what makes something real – not seeing. So much magic.

"Seeing isn't believing. Believing is seeing." from the movie The Santa Clause

Frosty the Snowman

“There's a certain magic that comes with the very first snow… For when the first snow is also a Christmas snow, well, something wonderful is bound to happen.”

Frosty the Snowman

Speaking of magic.. This line is quoted by the narrator in the opening scene of the Rankin Bass classic Frosty the Snowman. Growing up in Michigan, I experienced plenty of snow. After a while, the snow becomes more of a nuisance, but the first snow and Christmas snow always spark a feeling of magic. Both of those things together on the same day?? Extra magic!!

"There's a certain magic that comes with the very first snow... For when the first snow is also a Christmas snow, well, something wonderful is bound to happen." Frosty the Snowman

Miracle on 34th Street

“Christmas isn't just a day, it's a frame of mind.”

One for my Hallmark Channel lovers…

“That's Garland for ya!”

Christmas Under Wraps

You guys, Christmas Under Wraps is a classic Candace Cameron Bure Hallmark Channel movie! If you haven't seen it yet, don't miss out! It's a good one.

Other Notable Christmas Quotes

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.”

Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

A more refined, 1800's way of saying, “Treat every day like Christmas.” 😉

I recently read this book for the first time! I had seen so many film adaptions over the years, so I knew the story well. However, there is something extra special about sitting down with the physical book and reading the story exactly as Dickens intended. I suggest you read it if you haven't yet – you can grab A Christmas Carol for just a few bucks these days!

"I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year." - Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

“May you never be too grown up to search the skies on Christmas Eve.”

Clearly magic is kind of a thing with me. Come on – what is more magical than the hope of spotting Santa and his sleigh?!

Christmas Quotes: "May you never be too grown up to search the skies on Christmas Eve."

“Santa Claus is anyone who loves another and seeks to make them happy; who gives himself by thought or word or deed in every gift that he bestows.”

Edwin Osgood Grover

Santa Claus is not a myth. He is brought to life through each generous and loving act.

"Santa Claus is anyone who loves another and seeks to make them happy; who gives himself by thought or word or deed in every gift that he bestows." Edwin Osgood Grover

“As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year.”

David Grayson

A more subtle version of “Treat every day like Christmas.” 😉

"As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year." - David Grayson

“My life has two seasons: Christmas & almost Christmas.”

Amy Gillis Benson

This is the Christmas quote of all Christmas quotes! And, I made it up on my own! I love telling people it's almost Christmas basically every day of the year!

"My life has two seasons: Christmas & almost Christmas."

Music Quotes

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

TSO's, “Christmas Eve & Other Stories” is one of my absolute favorite Christmas albums – and probably one of my favorite albums in general. Below are a few of my favorite lyrics – they get me choked up every time I hear them!

“If you want to arrange it, this world, you can change it. If we could somehow make this Christmas thing last… by helping a neighbor or even a stranger… to know who needs help, you need only just ask.”

“Old City Bar” – Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Trans-Siberian Orchestra "Old City Bar" quote

“So tell me Christmas, are we kind – more this day than any other day? Or is it only in our mind? And must it leave when you have gone away?”

“This Christmas Day” – Trans-Siberian Orchestra
"This Christmas Day" Trans-Siberian Orchestra quote

“Let the world rejoice together as it looks upon the stars knowing every man's our brother and that every child is ours.”
